Your birth is sacred
Your birth story is your memory of your hours when the world stopped, when you traveled to the edge of your being and brought forth a life.
Birth photography documents your story. I capture the details, the settings, the emotions, your support system, how you surrendered to the process and rose from the depths.
During birth your brain wave patterns change and you enter an altered reality. This can make it hard to piece the story together, to remember all the special details. Through photography you can have your story visually to revisit as many times as you would like.
Photography provides a way remember all the special moments on the most important days of your life.
You can use photos to scroll through and reminisce, to process, to share, to print and hang as art, to use as birth announcements.
Birth photography is a documentary style of photography that captures your individual birth story. I will document your labor, your birth and the first hours postpartum. Your photos will reflect the raw emotions, the details, your partner, and family. I will make sure to capture your process and what makes your birth story unique and special.
In hiring a birth photographer it is vital to make sure your photographer is also a doula or a birth worker. Birth photography is much different than any other form of photography. Due diligence is a must to make sure your photographer is familiar with how to capture birth accurately, as well as low light photography. Hiring someone with experience in birth work will also ensure that your photographer understands the process of birth, and is able to capture moments of importance.
Most importantly your photographer must know how to respect your birth space. Any disturbances to the energy of your space may hinder your birth process. Hiring someone that has an understanding of how to support birth, such as a doula, gives you the peace of mind that your birth will be undisturbed.
Hiring a photographer that is a birth worker ensures they have an understanding of being on-call and will not miss your birth.
I am double certified as a holistic doula and have experience supporting births. This is the most transformative time in your life, and my promise to you, is to respect your sacred space and process.
Although birth is natural and beautiful, it is also unpredictable. Sometimes situations arise that do not fit with the birth plan.
As your birth photographer I will adapt myself to any situations that may arise. If a transfer is needed from a home or birth center, to a hospital, I will go with you. In the event of an emergency cesarean I will document as much as I can, some OR’s allow birth photography!
In the event your birth does not go according to plan, birth photography can be incredibly healing to process your birth story. In can shift the focus from the events that didn’t go to plan-to your strength, your courage, your love and the support system that surrounded you.
Before your labor you will fill out a questioner to make sure your preferences are known. You are in control of what kind of photos you would like me to take.
Depending on your package, I will arrive to your birth space during active labor ( basic photography package) or as soon as you need me ( doula/ photography package) and stay 1-2 hours postpartum to document your new family.
I go on-call for you at 37 weeks and stay on call until your baby is earth side. This means I am ready to attended your birth 24/7 within the on-call period. I do ask for 90 minutes to arrive so usually notifying me in early labor works best.
